Ronald D. Hood, Ph.D.,
Fellow, Academy of Toxicological Sciences

Ron is Principal of Ronald D. Hood and Associates, Toxicology Consultants.  He is also Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences, having retired from the faculty of the Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology Section of the Department of Biological Sciences of The University of Alabama after 32 years of service, and is Adjunct Professor of Public Health, School of Public Health, University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Ron was also Consultant in Environmental Medicine, U.S. Veterans Administration, Office of Medicine and Surgery, Agent Orange Special Projects Office (off site), during 1983, and Special Consultant, Science Advisory Board, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, from 1983 through 1993.  In addition, he has served as a consultant to pharmaceutical, chemical, biotech, and consumer products companies, trade associations, federal and state regulatory agencies, and as a toxicology expert in litigation since 1978, and he has organized and presented developmental and reproductive toxicology training courses to Canadian Government regulatory personnel annually since 2006.  Dr. Hood has participated in a variety of workshops and courses on developmental toxicity and risk assessment, and he has authored, coauthored, or edited numerous publications.  Dr. Hood's latest edited book is Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology, a Practical Approach, Second Edition, published in September, 2005, by CRC Press, Boca Raton, FL, and he is currently working toward publishing the third edition.  Dr. Hood has long been active in the Teratology Society and in the Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology, in which he is the current newsletter editor.
